Carol Locke MD — Metabolic Brain Health & Cognitive Performance
Carol A. Locke, MD is a Harvard Medical School-trained psychiatrist specializing in metabolic brain science and evidence-based brain health optimization.
Metabolic Approach to Mental Health
Dr. Locke takes a metabolic approach to brain health — using nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted interventions to optimize cognitive function, energy, and long-term brain health. Her expertise spans ketogenic diet protocols for mental health conditions, omega-3 fatty acid therapy for depression and mood disorders, and personalized metabolic optimization.
Expertise
Dr. Locke's areas of expertise include metabolic brain science, ketogenic diet for depression and bipolar disorder, omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) for mood disorders, nutritional psychiatry, integrative psychiatry, brain health optimization, neuroinflammation, and metabolic flexibility.
Background
Dr. Locke graduated from Harvard Medical School, then trained at Harvard's McLean Hospital for residency, where she was Chief Resident of the Mood Disorders Program and completed a fellowship in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital, spending 14 years focusing on mood disorders and nutritional metabolic approaches to brain health. In 1999, while on faculty, she founded OmegaBrite Bioscience and created the first-ever omega-3 for mood, brain health, and inflammation reduction — winning the Nutrition Business Journal Industry Award and elevating the standards of the nutrition industry. Her formulation, OmegaBrite 70/10 MD, was selected by Mass General, Ohio State University, and UCSF for over a decade of study for its effects in bipolar disorder, depression, inflammation, and memory. She established the Center for Creating Health in California and co-founded Omega-3 Awareness Day (2009). Dr. Locke continues to work in metabolic brain health with a current focus on mood and cognitive health and the mitochondrial basis of brain health.
Formulations
Dr. Locke is the formulator of OmegaBrite 70/10 MD, a high-concentrate EPA omega-3 (7:1 EPA-to-DHA ratio) designed to support mood, brain health, and healthy inflammation response. Learn more at omegabrite.com.
She also developed OmegaBrite Brain Elite, an LPC omega-3 featuring LYSOVETA technology from Aker BioMarine. LPC (lysophosphatidylcholine) crosses the blood-brain barrier via the Mfsd2a transporter for enhanced brain bioavailability to support cognitive health. Learn more at omegabritewellness.com.
